    Effective removal of impurities

    With our proprietary production process we are leading the way to documented extreme pure and clean products.

    We have invested in purification technologies and developed a manufacturing process for removal of environmental pollutants and cholesterol in our omega-3 products, which allow us to reduce environmental pollutants and cholesterol down to levels far below any regulatory requirements and guidelines. We continue to develop new technologies. We are a driving force for stricter regulatory requirements in the area.

    Proprietary manufacturing process to reduce the concentration of organic pollutants

    It is well known that fish and fish products contain persistent organic pollutants (POPs) like dioxins, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), polychlorinateted biphenyls (PCBs) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and more. Consequently crude fish oil, which naturally contains different types of fatty acids used to produce omega-3 products, also contains various forms of POPs. The adverse health effects of these environmental pollutants have been observed in animal studies of rats, mice, monkeys, and other mammalian species. The severity of the health effects depends on dose, species, the mixture of POPs, duration and timing of the exposure.

    POPs represent a hazard to human health and has therefore developed a proprietary manufacturing process that includes steps to reduce the concentration of dioxins, PCBs, BFRs and several other POPs, to very low levels.

    Leading the way in purity

    Some guidelines and regulations exist for POPs in feed and food/foodstuffs, but there are few common multinational regulations covering POPs. All BASF batches are controlled to be less than half of the limits set in the existing guidelines (Ph.Eur, GOED and USP). The actual POP levels found in Pronova’s products typically show values close to or below their detection limits. In this respect also, we lead the way with a documented extremely pure and clean product.
